08.06.22 | Kayla | No Comments

I bet you’ve been trying to research and figure out all the tips and tricks to traveling to Disney with a special needs child. You’re probably overwhelmed with everything you have been learning. You might have even wondered how you can justify spending so much money at an amusement park if your child has sch difficulty standing in line. I get it mama and I have been there.

This post is going to be short and sweet my friend. I want you to get the tips and tricks you’re looking for so you feel confident traveling. You can travel and you will travel. Remember that!

Disney has a great resources for guests with cognitive disabilities and mobility obstacles. One of my favorite resources is called the “Red Stroller Tag.” If your child with special needs prefers to stay in their stroller, no problema!

What is a Red Stroller Tag and who is it for?

A Red stroller tag is, well, just that! It is a red tag that Disney provides for you (once you’ve qualified for it) and then you put it on your stroller. Disney states that the Red Stroller Tag is for:

Guests with disabilities—including those with a cognitive disability—who need to remain in a stroller while in an attraction queue should visit the Guest Relations Lobby at the theme parks in order to obtain the appropriate identifying tag.

Where can I get it?

You can get the Red Stroller Tag from the Guest Relations lobby at whichever park you’re visiting first on your vacation.

Walt Disney World Resort:

Magic Kingdom Park – Inside of City Hall
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park – Near main entrance on the left upon entering the park
Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Near main entrance on the left upon entering the park
Epcot – Lobby in World Celebration (near Spaceship Earth)

Disneyland Resort:

  • City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland
  • Chamber of Commerce on Buena Vista Street in California Adventure

Does it cost anything?

No it does not cost you anything. It is a resource for you to use while traveling with special needs to Disney.

What are the benefits of having the red tag?

  • It allows you to bring the stroller through the line/queue. Otherwise, you would have to park it outside the line.
  • Recommended not only for mobility but also those with cognitive sensory disorders who feel more comfortable in their stroller. Therefore, less anxiety and *hopefully* less stimulation from staying in the comfort zone of their stroller.
  • You can use it with your DAS pass. Which means you won’t be waiting long in line. Woohoo! (Don’t know what DAS is? Go read my last blog)
  • After you retrieve the red tag from Guest Relations, it is good for the entire duration of your vacation.
  • No proof of diagnosis is needed but make sure you are prepared to let Cast Members know why you’re requesting the red tag.

Note: Keep in mind that strollers marked as wheelchairs must be within the allowable size of wheelchairs which can not exceed 36″ (92cm) in width and 52″ (132cm) in length.

Alright mama, I hope that information was helpful to you, and that you will be able to utilize this resource on your next vacation. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. That is what I am here for.
